About Me

Hi, I'm Alexander Escalera

I’m a former Data Scientist who has  fully transitioned into UI and UX Design. I learned both Data Science and Human-Computer Interaction through the Informatics program at the University of Washington, along with participating in various academic research programs.

In my most recent role at General Motors, I worked as a UX/UI Designer primarily on enterprise tools used for data analysis. I also have previous experience as a designer for an ebook reader, along with conducting A/B tests for Principal Financial Group's website.

With my background, I aim to find a balance between quantitative and qualitative data when making design decisions. Quantitative data is important but it's also important to look beyond the numbers and understand the cause of those outcomes.

I designed enterprise tools for cloud provisioning and data analysis. One of my redesigns for a data analysis tool boosted usage by 10%. I've collaborated with Project Managerss, Data Scientists, and Engineers to ensure feasibility and business alignment. Our team was smaller so I conducted a lot of user interviews and usability tests. With the team pivoting to the cloud, I also worked on branding initiatives for the new cloud tools.

I also conducted user interviews with four stakeholders to gather insights and understand their requirements for the dashboard. On July 2021, my title changed to Environmental Scientist due to the nature of the organization but work responsibilities were still data science related.
